Davenham Timeline Mosaic Project

The idea for the project came about by Anna Daws, who has lived in Davenham all her life, putting a post on Davenham Life Facebook page. She suggested that it would be a good idea to collect as many memories from living local residents, information and stories passed down through local families to make a permanent historical record of events for the village. This idea was met with considerable enthusiasm, which gave rise to several suggestions that it could be presented as a mosaic.

A previous Davenham community mosaic project depicting the local societies, clubs and businesses in the village had been crafted under the leadership of Jan Johnson of Mosaicopia and is currently mounted on the wall alongside the Davenham Players Theatre. This project was completed in 2016, sponsored by the Arts Council and opened by then local celebrity comedian, John Bishop.

The Davenham Timeline community project led by Jan Johnson of Mosaicopia Davenham had commenced. The panels of each mosaic depict a story inspired by the social, anecdotal and humorous history of the village of Davenham, Cheshire from 1068 to the present day. The panels are all made by members of the community under supervision and tutelage of a professional mosaicist through regular and free local sessions.

Everyone is welcome to join in. Be part of group, make new friends, learn a new skill and make your own piece of history. No experience necessary as teaching will be given. We are looking for people to help with all aspects of the project: from research, design and drawings, construction and installation, plus funding ideas.

Quotes from participants age 31 to 83:(male and female) "Learning a new skill" "Satisfying at every skill level" "Relaxing in good company" "Creative" "Sense of achievement" "Supporting local community" "Its free" "Nice relaxing time out" "Brings people together" "Never too old to learn". "Proud of what we're doing" "Good social interaction" "Wellbeing"

The mosaic panels are located in public spaces and businesses around the village. Each panel has a scannable QR code which links to the website for more information. An idea for the future is a walkable route with an associated leaflet.

Self funded by local fundraising events, and appreciated grants.

Donations gratefully received.
